Perisher Skiing & Snow Activities
What To Pack for Perisher Skiing and snow activities
The Australian Alps can surprise first-time visitors with how cold it gets, even on sunny days. Pack in layers and you’ll stay comfortable from first lift to après ski.
Everyday Essentials:
Warm layers including thermals, fleece or merino mid-layers, thick ski socks, beanie, scarf, gloves, and comfortable casual wear for evenings at the hotel.
Ski Day Gear:
Waterproof ski jacket and pants, boots (or hire locally), goggles, helmet, gloves, and poles. Remember to dress in layers underneath – you can always remove a layer if you warm up.
Don’t Forget Sun Protection:
The alpine sun is intense, especially reflecting off snow. Pack SPF 50+ sunscreen, lip balm, and sunglasses – you’ll thank yourself later!
Getting To Smiggins
By Car: Smiggins Hotel offers FREE guest parking directly outside the hotel – no shuttle buses, no long walks with luggage, just park and ski. During winter, you will need snow chains for your tyres if you do not have a 4WD or AWD vehicle.
Important for Diesel Vehicles:
Alpine temperatures can cause standard diesel to gel and damage your engine. If driving a diesel vehicle, you MUST fill up with Winter Mix diesel in Jindabyne before ascending to Smiggins. Do not use standard diesel in winter conditions.
